Title Biography


“Analysis of Macromolecular Complexes by Quantitative Proteomics”

Dr. Ranish obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington in the laboratory of Dr. Steven Hahn.  During his doctoral dissertation Dr. Ranish focused on the molecular mechanism of transcription initiation by RNA polymerase II.   Dr. Ranish is currently a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Ruedi Aebersold’s laboratory at the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, Washington.  In the laboratory, Dr. Ranish has applied new technologies in quantitative proteomics to the study of macromolecular complexes.

Dr. Hughes is Vice President of Research and Development at Prolinx, Inc. in Bothell, WA, USA. Prolinx, founded in 1995, develops, manufactures, and markets novel tools and technologies*including reagents, kits and instruments*for research and product development in proteomics and genomics. Dr. Hughes joined Prolinx as a Scientist in 1996 and later served as Group Leader, Applications Development, and Director, Applications Development and Manufacturing. Prior to joining Prolinx, Dr. Hughes was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Davis, working with Claude F. Meares. Her work involved applying chemical techniques to biological and biomedical problems by integrating bioconjugate chemistry, organic chemistry, and molecular biology to map protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interactions. She received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, concentrating on the interaction of metal-containing compounds with nucleic acids, and her B.S. in chemistry from Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY.
